About Triennium 2016

The 2016 Presbyterian Youth Triennium is gearing up for next summer. This triennial gathering of Presbyterian youth and young adults will again be held on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. This year’s theme is: GO! into the world and make disciples.

Triennium is a life-giving, life-changing, faith-moving experience! As the world changes, society shifts, and the church expands — the need for vibrant young Presbyterians grows. Don’t miss this powerful week of worship, small groups, recreation, and fellowship with thousands of Presbyterian youth from all over the world!

Who: High school youth (entering 9th through finishing 12th grade) and adult advisors (age 21 years or older)

When: July 18–24, 2016 (including travel both ways)

About the experience: We go to Triennium as a delegation from our presbytery and we travel together, stay in the dorms together, eat together, and worship together. We plan to have a few get-togethers before July so our delegation can get to know each other before we depart. Please make every effort to participate in these pre-triennium events.

The time at Triennium is spent mostly in small groups with other young people and leaders from across the country and several even from other countries. The small groups talk about the main scripture passages for the event and how they impact our lives right now. The small groups also engage in other thought provoking discussions, activities and a large scale Triennium mission project.

Another substantial portion of Triennium is experiencing worship in a whole other way. Imagine 5,000 young Presbyterians in an auditorium singing and dancing together. The scripture is brought to life through drama and the message comes from powerful and engaging pastors. At the last triennium in 2013, we held one of the worship services outside on a giant hill. The pastor‘s sermon was on the feeding of the 5,000 and there were literally 5,000 of us there, taking communion, and singing once it got dark together in candlelight.  Everyone was exceedingly moved.

Cost (includes transportation, housing, meals, & program):

Each participant pays:

  $175

Participant’s home church pays:

  $175

Susquehanna Valley Presbytery pays:

  $175

Total cost:

  $525 per person

REGISTRATION UPDATE: As of February 1, we have about 25 youth from 7 churches who are interested in going to Triennium with our delegation. A deposit of $175 is due by March 1, and the final payments from participants and churches are due by May 1.  The pre-triennium get togethers will be an overnight on April 15-16 and a picnic after the Presbytery meeting on Saturday May 21.  We are asked to be at the Presbytery meeting to be commissioned as a delegation.  We will have more information on specific times and places shortly.

If you have anyone interested in applying, even if there are still questions and doubts, please let us know so we can try to plan accordingly. Please send any inquiries to our registrar, Elder Joan Loeffler, at SVPregistrar1(at)gmail.com

Whether you have any youth that are eligible to go to Triennium this year or not, we are asking all churches to keep in your prayers the planning team and the adult advisors, parents, and youth who are considering going. If your church would like to help in other ways such as hosting a pre-Triennium get together or financially sponsoring a youth or a church who will find the cost prohibitive, please let us know. We would love to hear how you feel God might be calling your church to partner in this event.

We are greatly excited to be planning this adventure! We can’t wait to see what God has in store for our youth.

Blessings and Peace,

Rev. Becky Kindig
