*This event is open to the public.  Please invite your church members, family and friends who are interested in saving money on their home energy bills and caring for God’s creation.


12:15 p.m. The Presbytery of Susquehanna Valley adjourns its morning meeting on zoom and commissioners take a brief break.

12:30 p.m.  Optional informal gathering on zoom for lunch at home to share personal stories on energy conservation, weaning off fossil fuels, and creation care.


1:00 p.m.  Presentation by Chris Burger   Dependence on fossil fuel drains family budgets along with our local economy. It also threatens humankind. Presentation discusses strategies on how individuals and communities can wean themselves off of fossil fuel. Chris will share how his family gradually reduced their home's use of fossil fuel to nearly zero.

Chris Burger developed the first Weatherization Program in the United States (1977), built an energy efficient home in 1978 and his home has used nearly ZERO fossil fuel since 1998.  His service has included chairing several groups:  Network for a Sustainable Tomorrow (NeST), Broome County Energy Commission, Southern Tier East Regional Planning and Development Board and the Cornell University Eco-Justice Project.  He has been a member of the Tier Energy Network, Broome County Environmental Management Council, and Sierra Club: NY State Executive Committee, Sierra Atlantic Editorial Board, and Energy Committee.  Chris is the Co-Stated Clerk of Presbytery of Susquehanna Valley.
