The Rev. Dr. Jan Edmiston [Pastor, Regional Leader, Co-Moderator of the 222nd General
Assembly, and now General Presbyter for the Presbytery of Charlotte] will lead us in
worship and offer three keynotes focusing on a specialty area for her: The Challenges and
Opportunities of 21st ministry.

How did we get here and Why are we here
A brief telling of the CNY Partnership story and how we envision God leading us into the future together.
Led by the CNY Partnership Steering Team: Larry Beasley (Utica), Melodie Long (Northern NY), Linda
Russell (Cayuga Syracuse), Becky Kindig (Susquehanna Valley), & David Bennett (Northern NY).

Escape from the Institution
As Presbyteries discover they are stuck in old structures and behaviors it has
become essential to reflect on their life together and the institutional patterns that
prevent them realizing their deeper calling. In this first of two conversations we will
reflect upon the current institutional nature of presbyteries and tools for moving out
from old models into new one that are life giving and missional.
Led by Harold Delhagen, Synod Leader for the Synod of the Northeast

The Journey Toward Something Else
As we escape the institutional patterns of the past we will need to be thinking about where we go next.
This conversation is about tools for discovering our future journey and what it means to aspire to become
missional and a part of the Beloved Community.
Led by Harold Delhagen, Synod Leader for the Synod of the Northeast

The Differentiated Leader
As we consider the shift from the institutional to the missional, it is clear that a different leadership model
is required. What kind of leaders do we need to be? As a system, institutions, by their nature, are
oriented towards preserving the status quo, and any attempt to shift the culture of the institution will be
met with resistance—and in some cases, outright sabotage. Edwin Friedman’s model of differentiated
leadership offers a systems based approach in leading cultural change in the face of resistance. This
workshop will explore the facets of Friedman’s model and discuss how we can encourage one another in
becoming such leaders.
Led by Larry Beasley, Commissioned Pastor, currently serving as the Interim Presbytery Leader for
Utica Presbytery and as Stated Clerk for both Utica and Cayuga-Syracuse Presbyteries
